The rumor mill is already churning out reports about Apple's next smartphone, likely called the iPhone 6. We're collecting every rumor, whether wacky or plausible, that CNET has reported about the iPhone 6 here, so you can stay on top of the latest reports on its release date, specs, and special features. Let us know in the comments below what you're hoping to see from Apple's next iPhone. Apple hasn't even confirmed it's even working on a new iPhone, let alone what it will be called, but following the pattern the company has used to name its previous phones, we are guessing it will be dubbed the iPhone 6. What we think we know This early in 2014, we don't know much about what Apple has up its sleeves for the next iPhone. That said, some trends are already popping up in the rumors. Analysts and sources claim that Apple will give us two

iPhone 6 Features We Want from Apple

Image
The iPhone 5s is just a few months old, but seeing as how we’re already into 2014 and a new iPhone will more than likely be released later this year at some point, it’s not too early to talk about the next generation, currently referred to as simply the iPhone 6 for now, although rumors have pointed to the “iPhone Air” as a possible name for the device. We’ve already talked plenty about iPhone 6 rumors and what we can most likely expect out of the new device, but we’ve never really discussed what we’d like to see featured on the next iPhone, rumor or not — sort of like a wish list that we could give to Apple if we had the chance. There are a lot of rumors flying around about the iPhone 6, many of them are fairly realistic, but there are also a lot of rumors that are pretty ridiculous. With that said, we thought we’d come up with our ideal iPhone 6 and put together a next-gen device that we would want to see later this year. SLIGHTLY LARGER DISPLAY There’s a reason that Appl

If Apple Launch A Larger iPhone 6, The Sweet Spot For The Screen Is 4.9 Inches

Image
Rather than follow the competition, Apple have always forged their own road with their smartphone form factors. While Samsung, HTC, and Sony were busy selling larger screened smartphones to more consumers, Apple have carried on with the smaller screened iPhone range. But the discussions about an iPhone with a larger screen continue. Can Apple implement a 5 inch screened device, maintain app compatibility, and not leave behind the current generation of smartphone users? Predicting a larger iPhone is a natural course of action when every other player in the market markets their flagship with at least a five-inch screen, but Apple has never been one to follow market trends. Their target market is the consumer, not the analyst. Apple, Samsung get a room to settle patent war. Forgive us if we don't hold our breath

Image
With the start date of their next trial looming, Apple and Samsung have agreed to try to settle their long-running patent disputes through a mediator. Bloomberg reports that the bitter rivals announced their intention to enter talks outside the courtroom in documents filed with the US Federal Court in San Jose on Thursday. The move comes following a request by Judge Nancy Koh in November that each company submit a proposal outlining possible "settlement opportunities" in advance of their next trial, scheduled to begin in March. Samsung suffered a stinging defeat in the companies' last go-round, when Judge Koh ruled that several of the South Korean firm's smartphone models violated Apple's patents on the design and function of the iPhone. Once the dust cleared from the subsequent haggling over damages, Samsung was handed a bill for $929m, payable to Cupertino. Apple isn't done yet, though. That 2012 case only involved older Samsung

Typo Bluetooth keyboard case for iPhone 5 and 5s

Image
After nearly a month of hype, the Ryan Seacrest-backed Typo keyboard is nearing release and AppleInsider had a chance to spend some hands-on time with the device ahead of its launch later in January.  First announced in  early December , the  Typo Bluetooth-enabled iPhone keyboard case  is perhaps best known for being backed by Ryan Seacrest, though the device itself is an interesting item.  For those who have handled a legacy BlackBerry, or the Canadian company's new Q10 smartphone, Typo's design will be familiar (too familiar for BlackBerry, which  is suing Typo  for alleged patent infringement). But that's the point.  Typo isn't looking to trail-blaze a path toward a new and unique mode of input. Quite the opposite. The idea is to resurrect the physical QWERTY smartphone keyboard in a world dominated by all-screen devices made popular by Apple's iPhone.  Whether Typo can pull off such a heady feat is up to consumers, but that the product even exists proves

Report claims to reveal new details on upcoming iPhone 6

Image
A new report from South Korean publication  ET News  says the iPhone 6, which it calls “iPhone Air,” will be just 6 millimeters thick when it is unveiled later this year, making the handset significantly thinner than its predecessors. Comparatively, the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 have a 7.6 millimeter profile while the iPhone 5c is thicker, at 8.97 millimeters. The publication says the news comes from Chinese media, but it certainly can’t be verified at this point. The iPhone 6 will still be made of metal, although it will be a bit heavier than previous models, the same source says. The design of the iPhone 6 will reportedly be based on the iPhone 5s, although the upcoming iOS handset is said to be bigger than the 2013 flagship model. The phone is expected to be unveiled and launched at some point in September. Recent reports have suggested that this year Apple is going to launch iPhones with bigger displays than the 4-inch screen found in current models. The company is rumored to

iPhone 6 will have 5-inch display, says new report by Syed Haider

Image
Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 will finally match up to its key Android rivals and pack a 5-inch, Full HD 1080p display. That’s according to new rumours emerging from Japan, published in Mac Fan magazine. The move to a larger screen would not be a huge surprise. Apple is said to have been testing larger, phablet-style phones for months, with a slew of stories of 6-inch devices emanating from supply-chain sources throughout the summer. This new piece of tittle tattle, though, says a 5-inch number is nailed-on. While Mac Fan’s sources' credentials as sources of juicy info remain unclear, it's undoubtedly fair to say that a device of that size wouldn’t be seen as too large by most consumers. The magazine also claims the iPhone 6 will launch in September 2014. That seems almost a given, what with the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 arriving in the same timeframe in the past two years.

iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G Flex and Nexus 6: Smartphones that will rule 2014

Image
A quick look at the devices we think have the best chance of being among the best smartphones in 2014. 2014 has begun and it looks promising for the smartphone market. The industry skyrocketed and 2013 saw many big brands competing with their flagship releases. However, it's time for a fresh start and we are looking at smartphones that haven't launched yet but are hugely anticipated. Some ofcourse could just be rumours while some will actually see the light of the day. Let's cut through the speculation and highlight those phones we really want to see in 2014. iPhone 6 and 6C It's just been a few months since the iPhone 5S  and 5C were launched. However, rumors about next year's iPhone, presumed to be called the iPhone 6,  have already started emerging. Currently, rumors suggest that the iPhone 6 could have a larger display, possibly as large as 4.8-inches, something that would satisfy the demand for a larger iPhone. Apple historically has released the

Apple to launch iPhone 6 in two sizes this year?

Image
iPhone 6 concept Latest reports suggest Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 6 in two different sizes.  Apple will reportedly break from tradition and launch two variations of the iPhone 6 later this year. According to unnamed Foxconn executives, Apple could launch 4.7- and 5.7-inch iPhone 6 models. Both iPhone 6 variants will feature the TouchID sensor introduced with the flagship iPhone 5S at the end of last year. The latest rumour reinforces information that surfaced earlier in 2013, suggesting the Cupertino company will launch two different iPhone 6 sizes. In September, it was suggested Apple was testing iPhone 6 prototypes with screen sizes up to 6-inches, although no actual sizes were listed. In October, an analyst stated Apple was testing 4.7- and 5.7-inch iPhone screens, while notorious Apple tipster Brian White said a few days later he had knowledge of an iPhone 6 with a screen size that “could approach 5-inches.” There were also other rumours of a 5.5- and 4.9-i

Apple says never worked with NSA on iPhone hacks

Image
SAN FRANCISCO: Apple Inc has never worked with the US National Security Agency and is unaware of efforts to target its smartphones, the company said in response to reports that the spy agency had developed a system to hack into and monitor iPhones. Germany's Der Spiegel reported this week that a secretive unit of the NSA, which is under fire for the extent and depth of its spying programs around the world, makes specialized gear and software to infiltrate and monitor a plethora of computing devices, including mobile phones. The report included an NSA graphic dated 2008 that outlined a system in development called DROPOUTJEEP, described as a "software implant" that allows infiltrators to push and pull and retrieve data from iPhones such as contact lists. Der Spiegel referred to it as a "trojan," or malware that helps hackers get into protected systems. The report, which surfaced on Sunday, did not suggest that Apple had cooperated with the US spying age
